Donna Groom will debut her solo concert, “One More Mountain to Climb” on October 5, 2013 at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, Midland PA at 7pm. Tickets are $25.00. The concert will benefit Divine Mercy Academy in Beaver Falls, PA. For tickets and information, call 724-576-4644 or visit lppac.org.

Groom is the lead female vocalist with the legendary “Skyliners” whose 1959 hit “Since I Don’t Have You” made them international artists. Ms. Groom has performed with The Skyliners at concerts in major music venues across the country and Canada since 1981. During this time, she has recorded several cds for a Japanese label. Her current work includes an upcoming cd of Stevie Wonder songs entitled “Just Wonderin’……” and will be available at the concert.

The song “One More Mountain to Climb” is the inspiration behind the concert theme. The lyrics were written by Linda Marcus of Pittsburgh, PA. She is an educator, lecturer, lyricist, and collaborator in many genres of music. The music is by Tony Award winning (Newsies) composer Jack Feldmen of New York City. He has also composed music/lyrics for recording artists (Copacabana) as well as animated motion pictures (Thumbellina). The message of “One More Mountain to Climb” is one of hope and inspiration, stating that at any stage of life, “…….If you dream it, that’s how it will be.” Groom will perform the music that has influenced her life from the 1960′s through the 1970′s, including hits by Patsy Cline, Dusty Springfield, The Carpenters, and Carly Simon. Since Ms. Groom is an accomplished pianist she will be playing Lincoln Parks beautiful Steinway Piano and performing Brubeck’s “Blue Rondo a la Turk,” and a rendition of pianists Ferrante and Teicher’s Theme from “The Apartment”(Jealous Lover).

The 18 piece orchestra are friends and colleagues of Ms. Groom from The Benedum Orchestra and PBS shows under the musical direction of Conductor Ralph Guzzi. Guzzi is an arranger and performer (trumpet). He served as Music Director and arranger for the PBS “My Music” series. He is also the Director of the “University of Pittsburgh Jazz Ensemble” and Pittsburgh Public Schools “All-City” Jazz Ensemble. He is arranger for several orchestras and pops symphonies including the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater production, “American Rhythms,” Orchestra of the Alleghenies, and The Latshaw Pops Orchestra.
